Night Time Toilet Training !

Do you ever have one of those weeks that have gone by in a blur? Partly due to being busy but mainly due to lack of sleep?

Well I’m in the middle of one of those weeks.

We are currently toilet training B to get up himself during the night to go to the toilet, but instead I’m finding we are washing the bed sheets on a daily basis.

A little background

B has just turned 3 and this time last year, when he had just turned 2 we decided to toilet train him. It worked really really well and he was pretty much fully trained within 3 weeks. Fully trained that is with the exception of him wearing a pull-up at night time. We were (and still are) delighted that he took to it so quickly and at such a young age.

Fast forward 11 months or so and B still wakes up with a wet pull-up in the morning.

Still, we decided that last Friday would be his first night without a pullup. We had him prepped for a week beforehand and he was really looking forward to going to bed wearing his underpants and PJ’s.

Night 1 went as well as we could have expected. He did a wee before going to bed as normal and at about 12.30am when we were going to bed, we put him on the toilet and he did another one. 3 hours later I went in to check him and he was soaking. And so began the routine of changing sheets, pants and PJ’s.

With the exception of 1 night, where he did really well and had a dry night (ok, so we lifted him onto the toilet twice during that night), we have had wet sheets.

I’m now wondering have we done this too soon? Should we have waited until he was waking up with a dry pullup?

When we went through the same thing with N, she took to it like a duck to water.

All children are different, I know that and I don’t want to force B to do this if he’s not happy. Today I casually mentioned to him that we might put back on his pullups at night for a while. He looked at me as if I had two heads, said “no you’re not” as if he thought I was joking and just refused to believe me. I quickly changed the subject.

So now I really don’t know what to do.

Do we persevere with what we are doing, or do we revert to pullup for a little while longer?

My judgement is a little cloudy due to lack of sleep.

Does anyone have any advice?
