Childrens Heartbreaking Letter to Minister Varadkar

letter

The four children of Sally Rowlette have written a touching letter to Health Minister Leo Varadkar asking him to make our hospitals safer.

Sally dies from a life-threatening illness at Sligo Regional Hospital in February 2013. The inquest later returned a verdict of death by medical misadventure.

The letter which was handwritten read:

“To minister Leo Varadkar,

We miss our Mum so much every day.

Can you please make sure this can never happen to any Mum again. And to make our hospitals safe.

Signed Leanne 9, Abbie 7, Joseph 4 and baby Sally 2″

Minister Varadkar was handed the letter by the childrens’ Dad Sean when they had a meeting in Dublin. The meeting was also attended by Michael Kivlehan who also lost his wife to the same condition in Sligo Hospital.

Mr. Varadkar said “There have been a number of serious cases of medical misadventure in recent years which resulted in maternal and neonatal deaths that might have been avoided, including these two cases. This gives me cause for concern as Minister for Health. This year we are developing a new maternity strategy which will map maternity services for the next few decades”

We hope these brave children get their wish.
